That was close. June 2026 Newsletter

I almost skipped a crucial step that would have wasted hours of effort, thousands of dollars, and untold opportunities.

A crucial step that I hammer others over the head about on the daily.

We’re in the middle of a complete internal systems rebuild. New CRM, new website, etc. And we’re taking this tech refresh as a chance to review all of our marketing content.

Yes, I am a glutton for punishment, it seems.

And in our haste to just get to the finish line, I almost breezed right past the piece I insist is unskippable.

Even marketers avoid the foundational work.

Which is extra egregious since we should know better. I’ve seen what happens when this part is skipped. I’ve celebrated the impact it has on brands who tap into mega growth.

Yet I was all too eager to skip right to the task list.

But then I bought a new planner. And it held me accountable in a way that other planning systems I’ve used in the past don’t.

Every planner I’ve tried treats each day as its own island. Disconnected from the bigger picture tasks, and vulnerable to allowing the unexpected to completely destroy the best laid plans. It’s a 3-tiered system that organizes tasks around key categories, plots them onto their respective day, and then schedules everything out.

Seeing the full rebuild laid out that way, I couldn’t come up with a believable excuse.
“I already know all of this well enough. Claude understands my business. These are just simple marketing emails, after all.”

I couldn’t avoid refreshing our customer avatars, brand identity, and positioning strategy.

Well, I could. But I couldn’t justify it.

Thankfully my inner marketing expert stared me down until I realized that would be an absolutely foolish decision to make. The vast majority of our 3000+ clients treat this part of their marketing strategy as a burden, a time suck, a dalliance.

I was one of you.

No matter how many times you’ve created or reviewed these documents, they could always use some extra love. They’re not a single task to do once. They’re living, breathing ideas that should steer every decision and inspire each touchpoint.

Not to check a box or follow the rules, but to give your business the opportunity to rise above the hubbub, drive connection, and open doors you never thought possible.

Now, onto June’s rundown:

Let’s Catch Up:

It’s been a minute. Let’s catch up. Book a call.

Watch and Grow:

Remember how I told you almost everything is getting a facelift? Well, YouTube is joining the party. And you’re definitely going to want to make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss out. It’d be a real shame if your competitors get there before you do…

In the meantime, be sure to check out these recent videos. They’re about some huge developments that shockingly NO ONE is talking about:

Amazon Did Some Serious Spring Cleaning

  • Premium A+ for Everyone - Amazon finally realized that it was silly to make brands jump through hoops just to get access to Premium A+ Content. Especially because its impact on conversion rates benefits everyone’s bottom line.

  • Alexa Absorbed Rufus - More than a rebrand, but not as earth-shattering as LinkedIn would lead you to believe. For the full implications, make sure to watch this video.

  • Titles Are Breaking Up - Amazon’s title limits are going from 200 characters to…200 characters. But with a twist! Now the “title” gets up to 75 characters, and an “item highlights” section below the title gets the remaining 125. You have until July 27 to make the change, or Amazon will make it for you.

  • You Can’t Hide Your Pricing Tricks - Now is a good time to evaluate your sale strategy. One of Alexa’s favorite shopping prompts is to see the pricing history of items and set price alerts or automatic purchasing. This is a great way to hook price-sensitive customers, but eradicates the pricing manipulations that made sales “look like” a good deal.

A lot of change is happening at Amazon, and I imagine more is on the way. Would you like me to send out email bulletins as they get announced so you stay on top of the latest news?

The Planner That Put Me Back on Track

I’ve tried every organization system under the sun. Yes, even the completely bloated Getting Things Done System. Nothing beats a paper planner. But most planners either require a second shift to complete all of their goal setting and best life visioning, or they’re so sparse that you’re filling every nook and cranny with unintelligible scribble that gets lost the moment you turn the page. The framework is simple, but the impact is profound. If you need a better way to visualize your days and plan your goals, check it out.
